BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Dartford, England-born Pete Tong first caught the rhythm bug as a drummer before his interest in electronic music led him to start DJing. He played his first gig at a friend's wedding at age 15, and after high school he operated a roving mobile disco out of a transit van. Soon he was an in-demand DJ with a growing following that would travel to his gigs throughout London and Kent. In the early '80s he stayed abreast of cutting-edge trends as a music journalist and A&R manager, and in 1986 he released a compilation titled The House Sound of Chicago, Vol. 1 -- the first British release to compile and distribute house music. In the '90s Tong became a staple on British radio with his hugely popular weekly BBC Radio 1 shows Essential Selection and Essential Mix, both of which he still hosts today. In addition to his radio success Tong has climbed the UK charts with numerous mixes and is now a sought-after international party DJ with a legendary annual residency at Pacha in Ibiza.
