Lydia Loveless on Tour
Lydia Loveless combines alt-country, alternative rock and a punk-rock spirit in equal measures. Acclaimed for her insightful, no-holds-barred songwriting style and for her fearless, passionate performances, Loveless has been compared to such greats as Loretta Lynn and Lucinda Williams.
Loveless' confessional 2020 album Daughter -- her fifth studio album and her first on her own label, Honey, You're Gonna Be Late Records -- chronicles the breakup of her marriage to her bass player and moving away from her long-time home of Ohio to North Carolina. The album was praised by the likes of Pitchfork for being her best album yet, saying "the Ohio singer-songwriter masters music that follows the contours of her electric guitar playing: rangy and gnarled."
Coming into her own as a scrappy, firebrand alt-country singer/songwriter, she's also become known for unlikely covers of some of her favorite pop artists, including Justin Bieber and Kesha.
Make sure to catch this unforgettable performer when she comes to a city near you on her headlining tour, as well as on dates opening for Drive-By Truckers.
Lydia Loveless Live in Concert
Born in Coshocton, Ohio, and raised on a farm, Lydia Loveless' father was an avid music fan in addition to being a farmer and spent his spare time booking bands at a local bar. As a result, musicians from out of town would often end up sleeping on her family's living room floor. Being exposed to this musical lifestyle obviously stirred something in Loveless, and she began writing songs and performing onstage with local bands when she was 13.
When her family moved to Columbus, Ohio, in her mid-teens, Loveless sang in a band called Carson Drew with her sisters, but the band didn't last long and she decided to establish herself as a solo artist.
Loveless self-released her debut solo album, The Only Man, in 2010. After receiving tremendous critical acclaim for the album, she ended up signing a deal with country label Bloodshot Records. She put out another full-length album on the label soon after, 2011's Indestructible Machine.
After releasing a handful of EPs and full-length records with Bloodshot, she decided to forge out on her own to release 2020's heart-felt, confessional album Daughter, featuring guest turns from the likes of Laura Jane Grace, on her own label Honey, You're Gonna Be Late Records. Many critics have called the album her best work yet.
