My Electrifying experience
Janelle and St. Beauty were great and so full of energy and I spent the whole concert yelling but trying to not yell into the ears of this suburban mom in front of me (this morning I woke up sounding like the Crypt Keeper so I didn't do as well as I thought I would). At the end of the concert, I was randomly selected to meet Janelle and I wish that I could say that meeting her was the best part of my experience but I think that bigger than that seeing her and how much she cared about her fans and people in general (she talked about Flint and took the time to take pictures with us after like 3 hours singing her heart out and dancing). This was my first concert experience ever and I'm seriously glad to have spent it with Janelle and St. Beauty at 20 Monroe Live. The venue allowed the event to be super intimate and everyone had clear view of the stage and artists. If I wasn't busy the next day then I would've gone to her Detroit show too!

Momentous
Had no venue issues whatsoever - super fast to get in and I was in the mezzanine and the view was great. But the real deal was the show! It was so incredible - even though the venue was small the girls brought it just as much as an arena. St. Beauty is the best opening act I have ever had the pleasure of seeing perform and Janelle was all energy the entire time. She never stopped and was so personable with the crowd. Plus her music (and her) are so amazing and inclusive. It was incredible. The tickets were well priced and I felt that everything within the venue was as well. Staff was very friendly. Would go again and again.

Janelle Monae is the definition of greatness
The most welcoming space and vibe was created as she put on the show of her life! I have never felt more proud/accepted to be a black queer woman in America who had a voice and a right to love every part of my being and the people around me. Janelle was so intentional from her words, clothing, movement etc. that she was able to get a point across and use her platform for change.

Beautiful Performance
Janelle Monae puts on such a great performance. From the time she stepped out on stage, to the time she left, she did not stop. She killed that stage. And I'll be honest, at one point, I even cried. I would definitely recommend seeing her live.

With the 2013 release of her genre-spanning second album The Electric Lady, Janelle Monae took her already-experimental funk sound to the next level, incorporating elements of jazz, gospel, and even pop-punk to dazzling effect. Bolstered by hit singles "Q.U.E.E.N. (feat. Erykah Badu)" and "Prime Time (feat. Miguel)," the album landed at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 and served as fertile material for her ever-evolving live concerts. Revered by ticket buyers for her creativity and showmanship, Monae had fans dancing from start to finish at her energetic 2013 shows. Discovered by Diddy and signed to Bad Boy Records in 2006, Monae released several EPs before making her full-length debut in 2010 with concept album The ArchAndroid. Aesthetically, Monae is known for her modelesque looks and androgynous style, and is rarely seen without her signature pompadour and tuxedo. Though she only stands at 5', her concerts are known to have giant ambitions, earning her a reputation as one of the most entertaining acts in contemporary pop music.
