BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
J Boog, aka Jerry Afemata, was raised in Compton, CA on a steady diet of Bob Marley, N.W.A., and Sublime. He grew up singing with his brothers and sisters, and in high school he started performing at local clubs. In 2007 he traveled to Hawaii to see reggae legend FIJI (George Veikoso) perform, and he managed to slip Veikoso his mixtape after the show. Veikoso and his team were impressed, and a few days later they began working together on J Boog's debut album. The result was 2007's Hear Me Roar, a surprise success that cracked the Top 10 on Billboard's Top Reggae Albums chart. The response in Hawaii was especially positive, and in 2009 J Boog moved there to work on music full-time. His rise continued in 2011 with an acclaimed self-titled EP and his sophomore album Backyard Boogie, a No. 1 hit on the Reggae charts that earned him an International Reggae and World Music Award (IRAWMA) for Best New Entertainer. Since then Boog has toured extensively with his group The Hot Rain Band, both in support of big acts like Rebelution and on several headlining tours of their own. On tour with Rebelution again in 2016, Boog and company have fans eager to soak up the good vibrations of their unforgettable sets.
