GIRLI on Tour
Amelia Toomey, aka GIRLI, is an English singer/songwriter whose sound has been described by The Guardian as a mix between "PC music, bubblegum pop, pop punk, and rap, each one treading a line between catchy and deliberately discomforting."
GIRLI is set to commence her 2023 tour with a performance in Los Angeles before heading across the pond, making several stops in Europe that include and shows in the UK, France, Czech Republic, Germany, and the Netherlands.
GIRLI's "sorry not sorry" attitude and willingness to provoke some sort of reaction from listeners with her lyrics is sure to turn curious and open-minded heads. Her unique and inventive sound combines futuristic pop with bubblegum pop and pop/punk. As genres continue to be bent and combined, GIRLI's music falls in the relatively new genre of "brat pop." She cites music talents such as the Spice Girls, Lily Allen, The Streets, and Metronomy as inspirations for her music. GIRLI has released several singles and EPs dating back to 2015 with her debut single "So You Think You Can F*** With Me Do Ya". She released her debut album, Odd One Out, in April 2019. Her 2021 single "More Than a Friend" also garnered attention and popularity amongst fans and listeners.
GIRLI Live in Concert
Toomey's solo career started in 2014, though her first single as GIRLI wouldn't be released until 2015. Prior to that, she was part of an indie-rock band called Ask Martin when she was still in high school. Ask Martin disbanded as the band members went to separate colleges, although Toomey attended college in Stratford, she ultimately made the decision to pursue her interest in the music industry. Her inspiration for choosing the name "GIRLI' came from the mid-70s rock band Blondie. Through performing at any open-mic event she could find around London, GIRLI would inevitably grab the attention of BBC Radio 1, which helped to launch her closer to the mainstream. GIRLI has more than 940,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, with her top single "More than a Friend" boasting more than 37 million streams. GIRLI's singles "Not That Girl", "Hot Mess" and "Has Been" all share multi-million streams on Spotify as well.
