Since his breakthrough in the 1970s, Francis Cabrel has been one of France's most treasured singer-songwriters. Beginning with such hits as "Petite Marie" and "Je l'aime a mourir" and continuing through the songs on multi-platinum recent albums like ‘In extremis' (2015), Cabrel has married his abilities as a lyricist of great richness and sensitivity with an equally distinctive musical sensibility that merges the influences of American folk, country, and blues with France's chanson traditions. Cabrel's songs occupy a special place in the hearts of listeners all over the world, leading to career sales of over 25 million records.

Born in Agen and raised in Astaffort in the southwest of France, Cabrel spent his early years immersed in the music of Bob Dylan and Neil Young. By 1974, the shy young man had shifted from playing local dances with folk-rock bands to braving stages as an acoustic solo artist. A tribute to the woman who would become his wife, "Petite Marie" became his first hit after he entered it in a competition for Sud Radio in 1974. Wider success in France arrived for the southern-accented singer in 1979 with the release of his second album ‘Les Chemins de traverse' and his single "Je l'aime a mourir," an achingly romantic ballad that went on to sell two million copies and would later be covered by such artists as Roch Voisine and Shakira.

Over a four-decade span that includes 13 studio albums, six live records, and a multiplatinum compilation, Cabrel has been one of France's best-loved musical artists. In songs such as ‘L'Encre de tes yeux' and ‘Je t'aimais, je t'aime et je t'aimerai,' he combines touching lyrical insights about love and life with gentle-minded musical stylings, all with the same undercurrents of wit and hard-won wisdom that could be found in the music of his hero Bob Dylan. Indeed, Cabrel has arguably been the foremost purveyor of Dylan's songs in French, adapting 11 of his classics on his 2012 album ‘Vise le ciel ou Bob Dylan Revisité.'

In 2016, Cabrel released ‘L'In extremis tour,' a live album from the tour in support of his previous studio album ‘In extremis.' The recording is a testament to Cabrel's enduring mastery as a songwriter and performer as well as the warmth he always exudes when he takes the stage.
