Alex Orange Drink is the solo moniker for Alex Zarou Levine, lead singer & songwriter of The So So Glos. He is a native New Yorker of Palestinian, Lebanese and Jewish descent. Along with his band,The So So Glos, he co-founded the beloved Brooklyn venues Shea Stadium, and Market Hotel, which served as creative hubs for the New York City D.I.Y. artist community. Alex has toured internationally, appeared on David Letterman, Carson Daily and MTV, and shared the stage with Conor Oberst, Debbie Harry, The Pogues and various Wu-Tang Clan members. As a writer he has worked with Tim Armstrong (Rancid), Bright Eyes and others. His music has received critical acclaim in several outlets including Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, Spin, The New York Times, and The New Yorker. Alex is specifically known for his "streetwise and irreverent lyrics," which have drawn comparisons from William Wordsworth to the Beastie Boys. His song “Lost Weekend” was recently quoted by Jimmy Kimmel in the forward to “Once Upon A Time in Queens." A book which tells the story of the 1986 Mets, who went from New York's underdog team to World Series Champions in one rollercoaster season. Having been born with a rare genetic disorder (Homocystinuria), and recently diagnosed with a rare salivary cancer, (Adenoid Cystic), his music embodies a "stop at nothing" rock n' roll attitude of relentless persistence. Alex's music is rare, in that it confronts his health issues & other serious subject matter with a unique and sometimes playful vulnerability.
